CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It’s always an exciting sight to see when the U.S. Army Parachute Team, also known as the Golden Knights, is in town. The group is once again offering tandem jumps with members of the community at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Airport’s Outlaw Field.
Lt. Colonel Kevin M. Polosky, Commander of the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion in Nashville talked about the event.
“What we do is we bring out our community partners, people who are spheres of influence in the community that can go out and talk to people about their experience with the Golden Knights and experience with the Army. Really for us it’s just a way to give them a once in a lifetime experience that they’re not going to get anywhere else and help them create an Army story that they can go out and share,” said Polosky.
Polosky added that about 15 people are jumping each day with a total of about 60 by the end of the week. Everyone who participates takes a class where they learn the proper way to tandem jump. The Golden Knights U.S. Army Parachute Team works to connect America’s Army with the American public and that is one of the many reasons they offer tandem sky dives.
The mission of the Nashville Recruiting Battalion is to recruit with integrity the highest quality men and women to exceed the needs of the Army, while taking exceptional care of soldiers, civilians, and families.
Some of the well known figures who have already taken the plunge or are scheduled to tandem jump include country singer Chuck Wicks, APSU Head Basketball Coach Matt Figger, APSU Vice President Derek van der Merwe, Clarksville Police Department Deputy Chief Mike Parr and CNN commentator Scottie Nell Hughes.
The event continues through Friday, April 13 at Outlaw Field and the public is invited to come out and watch the Golden Knights and their tandem jumps.
