CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Around 20 spouses of the Fort Campbell Senior Leadership spent much of their day in Clarksville-Montgomery County learning more about the community. The group was part of a “Clarksville Tour/Welcome Day” for Fort Campbell military families, especially some that are new to the area.
The tour included the Customs House Museum, Journey’s Eye, Mildred & Mable’s, Horsefeathers, lunch at F&M Bank and the new Downtown Commons. Mrs. Beth Poppas, wife of Major General Andrew Poppas, Commander of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, thanked F&M Bank for organizing the tour. “This morning’s program really allowed the spouses of Fort Campbell’s Senior Leadership Team to see first hand the quality of life that Clarksville and Montgomery County has to offer,” Poppas said.
Construction is moving forward at the Downtown Commons located around the area of Main, 3rd, 2nd and Legion Streets. Paula Atkins, Event Program Manager for Downtown Commons said they are planning on opening to the public sometime in mid-April. Atkins talked about some of the amenities that will be available in the commons like free wifi through Google, public art will also be featured and plans are underway for a concert series that will kick-off in May and run through October.
Executive Director of the Two Rivers Company, Norman Quirion, said they expect the Downtown Commons to spur the economic drive of downtown. One concept being talked about is a possible apartment complex with retail stores below it and additional parking to be located across from the site at the corner of Main and 3rd Streets.
