CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- (CLARKSVILLENOW) Planning to get your hunter education certification early is the best way to insure you meet the requirements to go hunting.
Hunter Education is a requirement for hunters in Tennessee born on or after Jan 1, 1969.
Each year the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) offers Hunter Education classes in counties across the state. The bulk of the work involved is handled primarily by Hunter Education volunteers, who set up and instruct the classes.
Open classes will be posted to the TWRA website thirty days before a scheduled class date. In addition to the traditional twelve-hour hunter education course the TWRA has developed an online field day course to better accommodate people’s busy schedules.
This option allows students to complete the majority of the classroom work at home on their computer. After completing the home study portion, the student must then attend a field day in order to complete the certification. Younger students may have difficulty keeping up with the faster pace of the online course.
Those wanting to get hunter education certified are encouraged to sign up for an open class or field day in their county or neighboring county as soon as it becomes available. Traditional classes vary in size and you can reserve your spot for a class or field day online at tnwildlife.org.
Classes are taught throughout the year, but may be full or not available in your area right before hunting season.
