Amanda Joslin, administrator of elections for Montgomery County, encourages voters to take advantage of the early voting period and prepare in advance by reviewing their ballot, including the three proposed constitutional amendments.

“Early voting provides voters with flexibility and convenience,” said Joslin. “Before heading to the polls, voters should review the proposed constitutional amendments so they can make informed decisions and help keep lines moving efficiently for everyone,” she said in a news release.

Constitutional amendments on TN ballot

There are three proposed amendments to the Tennessee Constitution on the ballot. Here’s a summary from WKRN-News 2 in Nashville:

The first amendment would expand the circumstances in which judges can deny bail to people accused of certain serious crimes, including second-degree murder and aggravated rape.

The second amendment would prohibit Tennessee from imposing a state property tax. Tennessee has not levied a state property tax in more than 75 years.

The third amendment would expand constitutional protections for crime victims, including their rights to participate in certain court proceedings and the parole process.

Election officials note that constitutional amendment questions often contain language that may require additional time to review and consider, according the county news release. Voters who familiarize themselves with the amendments beforehand can spend more time making informed decisions and less time reading lengthy ballot language in the voting booth.
