CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – It’s the first week in more than two months without high school football, but that doesn’t mean there is a shortage of storylines. With two weeks remaining in the regular season, four area teams have clinched playoff berths, while West Creek and Clarksville Academy have been eliminated from contention.

With playoff spots still up for grabs, here’s a look at the Montgomery County high school football standings and what remains for each team heading into the final two weeks.

Standings key: e: Eliminated from playoff contention, x: Clinched playoff berth, h: Clinched home playoff game

The Region 5-6A playoff field is set following Rossview’s win and West Creek’s loss Friday. Now, the focus shifts to the region championship and home playoff games. Antioch faces Clarksville High on Oct. 23 before closing the regular season against Rossview on Oct. 30.

The Clarksville High-Antioch matchup will determine the region champion, while Rossview is still in the hunt for a home playoff game. The Hawks need Clarksville to beat Antioch before pulling off an upset of their own against the Bears in the regular-season finale.

Standings key: e: Eliminated from playoff contention, x: Clinched playoff berth, h: Clinched home playoff game

Kirkwood is the only area team to secure a home playoff game, but there is still plenty left to settle. The Cobras will face Henry County on Oct. 30 in a matchup that will determine the region champion and give Kirkwood a chance to capture its first region title.

Beyond the top of the standings, the playoff race remains wide open. Two postseason spots remain available, with Northeast, Kenwood and Northwest still in contention.

Northwest faces a difficult path to the postseason, while Northeast and Kenwood have more direct routes. The Eagles can secure a spot with a win over Dickson County on Oct. 23 or Northwest on Oct. 30. Kenwood’s matchup against Dickson County on Oct. 29 will ultimately determine the Knights’ playoff fate.

My prediction is that Northeast and Dickson County will claim the remaining playoff spots.

Standings key: e: Eliminated from playoff contention, x: Clinched playoff berth, h: Clinched home playoff game

Montgomery Central dominated its non-region schedule but ran into trouble against Marshall County last week. The Tigers defeated the Indians 55-22, putting Montgomery Central’s hopes of hosting a first-round playoff game in jeopardy.

Fortunately for the Indians, competing in a five-team region means their victory over Battle Creek has already secured a playoff berth. Now, head coach Wyatt Page and his team can turn their attention toward earning a home playoff game.

The path is straightforward. Montgomery Central must win its final two games against Creek Wood and Spring Hill to open the postseason at home.
