JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) Coming off a tough matchup with Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team dropped their second road game 65-47 against Jacksonville State, Saturday.

Both teams opened the game cold from the floor, with neither squad shooting above 30.0 percent. Austin Peay (10-7) worked to find an offensive rhythm until Brianne Alexander found space inside scoring six points in the first half.

The Governors’ second quarter struggles continued as Austin Peay shot 4-14 from the floor, but their defense continued to fight as the Governors went into the locker room down 15 points.

After the halftime break, the Govs came out firing, shooting 60.0 percent from the floor for the second-straight game. Kelen Kenol scored six second-half points and pulled down three defensive rebounds to keep the Gamecocks from getting extra possessions.

Baker led the Govs with nine points and seven assists, with Brianne Alexander and Kenol each scoring eight points. Kenol added seven rebounds and two blocks in her 26 minutes.

APSU Head Women’s Basketball Coach David Midlick said this about the game. “I wasn’t disappointed in the five or six we had in the game from midway through the third period through the second half. I thought we competed against their starters holding it at about a 10 points game, we’ve got to bring that in the first half.”

The Govs will look to stop their conference skid 5:30 p.m., Thursday at Tennessee State.
