Review by Pamela Holz-Realtor with Reliant Realty
Looking for something more than fast food for a quick lunch? Duke’s Diner offers that alternative.
Located just past the intersection of Riverside Dr. and North Second St., Duke’s will more than meet your expectations for a meal at an American-style diner. Want a big juicy cheeseburger with fries? You can get that… or a BLT, a fish sandwich, chicken sandwich, steak sandwich, or a whole variety of other such items that you would expect at a diner.
But then you look at the left side of the menu, and there is a whole Thai selection of choices. Feeling like some Beef and Broccoli? Pad Thai? Sweet and Sour Shrimp? You are at the right place. Such an unexpected assortment of foods makes Duke’s stand out in the world of diner choices.
The Papaya Salad came highly recommended, and was accompanied with the comment that it wouldn’t be what I was expecting. I think papaya=fruit=sweet. Not at all. The papaya is shredded and mixed with garlic, tomatoes, Thai spices, lemon and ground peanuts. A crisp savory salad with a little bit of heat and a whole lot of flavor was a perfect start to my lunch experience.
My friend and I were both in the mood for Thai, so she decided to try the Coconut Soup with Chicken and I ordered the Red Curry with Chicken. Not certain as to Duke’s definition of heat, I went with the mild. Next time I will ask for the medium, as the mild was pleasant but not spicy. (Side note: For those of you who are avoiding gluten and/or lactose, this Red Curry is the perfect meal for you, as it has neither.) I love curry, and Duke’s Red Curry definitely satisfied my curry craving.
While we were inhaling the aromas and flavors of our delicious Thai treats, the table nearby had their food delivered. Wow, the next time I am feeling like a big cheeseburger, I will know where to order one. I wondered if the gentleman would mind if I took a picture of his food, but opted not to bother him in the middle of his lunch. You will just have to go and try Duke’s delicious looking burger for yourself!
Always good to have variety for a fast and filling lunch… and Duke’s Diner offers just that.
