MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Government is now accepting applications for the Mayor’s Emerging Leaders program.

In the Mayor’s Emerging Leaders program, formally known as Students on Committees, area high school students may apply to serve as ex-officio members of various county government committees for the 2017-18 school year.

“This program affords students the opportunity to learn how County government works,” Mayor Jim Durrett said. “They are able to choose which committee they want to serve on and they serve as an Ex Offico member of that committee. It is a great learning experience and the students get an inside look at how county government operates.”

Students chosen to participate will be notified by mail in May, but won’t begin attending committee meetings until the start of the upcoming school year. Most committees meet monthly and take place in the afternoons, lasting approximately an hour.

Applications for the 2017-18 school year are available on the Montgomery County Government website and are due by May 5. For more information on the Mayor’s Emerging Leaders Program, contact Holly Hoechstenbach at 931-648-8482.
