NASHVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Local government officials were recently informed by a constituent that they were scammed when they received an e-mail from a company stating their driver’s license was ready for renewal.
When you click on the link the site resembles the Tennessee Department of Safety website.
According to the Department of Safety, there are bogus websites that people will sometimes access and attempt to renew their license. The department has tried to stop this practice.
However, these companies say on their website that “this is not a government entity”.
• This bogus website address is www.tennesseedriversservices.org.
• The Department of Safety advises that unless a web address has .gov at the end of the web address, then it is NOT an official State of Tennessee website.
• The Department of Safety does NOT send out e-mail renewal reminders for driver licenses.
• The correct web site address for the Tennessee Department of Safety is
http://www.tn.gov/safety/.
If you or someone you know have already paid for a license renewal through this website using a credit card, immediately contact the credit card company and request a refund and a new credit card number.
