CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Clarksville Fire Rescue hosted their annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony Sunday at the Main Fire Station on Main Street. It was the 15th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks. Close to 250 people were in attendance at the ceremony which honored fallen firefighters, police, first responders and emergency personnel lost in the 9/11 attack.

A memorial wreath was presented at the ceremony and Clarksville Fire Rescue Chief Michael Roberts, Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson, Chief of Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services Jimmie Edwards, and Lieutenant Phil Ashby of the Clarksville Police Department each placed a flower in the wreath in remembrance of those first responders and others who lost their lives.

As is done each year three local fallen firefighters were also remembered. Honored were Lieutenant Claude Walker who died while working at a fire in 1960, Captain George Wallace was killed in a vehicle crash while on his way to a fire in 1967 and Engineer Ray Harrison died in a truck accident while at a fire in 1981. Family members placed flowers at photos of the fallen firefighters.

Fire Chief Roberts, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett each spoke at the ceremony. Each of them talked about how they remembered how the attacks affected their personal lives as well as life in America, and each emphasized the importance of never forgetting the lives lost and how our nation was changed after the 9/11 attacks.
