HOUSTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A young couple and their newborn baby were killed in a head-on crash in Houston County Monday evening. They have been identified as 19-year-old Kassidy Leonard, 20-year-old William Griggs and 11-day-old Kimber Lynn Griggs.
The two-car crash happened on Highway 13 around 5:15 p.m. near the Houston and Humphreys County line.
Officials on the scene said the couple was on their way to visit family when the driver of a pickup truck crossed the double yellow lines and hit their sedan head-on.
According to the report made by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the young family died instantly when their 1996 Saturn was hit by Franklin’s 2001 Dodge Ram, which crossed double yellow lines into the opposite lane.
The pickup driver, 37-year-old Benjamin Franklin, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in unknown condition.
News 2 dug into Franklin’s past and found he had been arrested at least 10 times in the past 17 years.
His most recent arrest was a failure to appear charge in December 2013. Just six months prior in June 2013, Franklin was arrested for charges of driving on a suspended or revoked license and theft of under $500.
