Out on the west side of town with a group of people with different tastes in food? No worries, Campbell’s Kitchen can feed your bunch! Whether you are looking for a bratwurst or a cod fish dinner, a salad or an egg roll, Campbell’s Kitchen offers a variety that can appease most people. The fun comes in the ordering. Where else can you go and order a Jager Schnitzel with a side of Kimchi or Pork Fried Rice with steak fries?
Having heard from Woodlawn friends that this was the place to go to order Bulgogi, I headed out on Dover Rd. to find out what the raves were all about. Campbell’s Kitchen has a comfortable feel, with a friendly “sit where you’d like” greeting. It very much feels like a place where a person could easily be welcomed as a “regular,” even after just one visit.
Looking over the menu, ordering was simple. I had to try the Bulgogi and the Kimchi. My husband decided to eat from a different continent, and ordered the Schnitzel sandwich with a side of German potato salad.
The food came quickly, and the plates were full. The Schnitzel was huge, and came with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and onions on a hoagie bun. The German potato salad was cold, but tasty– that delicious combination of tangy vinegar with the creamy potatoes and sweet onions is the ultimate in German comfort food. The Bulgogi- thin strips of marinated beef that are traditionally grilled and served with a sweet sauce full of carrots and onions– was served on a large bed of rice. Wanting a little more heat, I topped my Bulgogi with the Kimchi-a fermented spicy cabbage. This created a satisfying combination of sweet and spicy and tender and crunchy. Even with sharing this yummy goodness, there were plenty of leftovers.
Campbell’s Kitchen is a great place to get a filling lunch, or an easy place to go at the end of the day when you want someone else to do the cooking. No frills, just good hearty food and lots of it.
