CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee is now the tenth state to adopt a new program from TDOT to help emergency personnel have easy access to health information for individual drivers during a medical emergencies or accidents.
Yellow Dot was launched with the help of Senator Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville) and Representative Curtis Halford (R-Dyer).
When an individual enrolls in the Yellow Dot program, he or she is given a packet containing a yellow sticker and a brochure of information about the program, where medical information can be listed. It is important that individuals update the medical information periodically to provide the most assistance in the case that it is needed.
After filling out the information in the brochure, individuals should place the yellow bi-fold holder in the glove box of each vehicle they own. The yellow sticker should be placed at the bottom left corner of the rear window of every Yellow Dot vehicle. On motorcycles, the sticker is placed on the bottom left corner of the license plate. This signifies to emergency personnel that there is medical information in the glove box in case of emergency.
Yellow Dot has proven to be helpful in other states when dealing with individuals that have medical conditions. The bi-fold holder lists medications, medical conditions, and allergies so that medical personnel can treat individuals without questioning if a person will have an allergic reaction to medication that conflicts with anything that is already in his or her system. The program will initially be directed towards the elderly and individuals with medical conditions before focusing on all drivers.
The program is free and there is no limit to the number of packets that an individual can receive. It is recommended that there be one packet in each vehicle that each individual may use.
The Clarksville Police Department has provided three enrollment sites that interested individuals can visit during normal business hours.
