CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – In day two of the District 13-4A softball tournament, Kirkwood avoided elimination with a big win over Northeast, ending the Eagles’ season, and Clarksville advanced to the District 13-4A title game on Wednesday in the winners bracket, sending Rossview down to the losers. Let’s recap the action.

Snakebitten Eagles downed by Kirkwood

In an elimination game, you always want to start fast, and that’s exactly what the Cobras did. Kirkwood scored 13 runs in the first inning to establish a commanding lead and added six more in the bottom of the second for a 19-0 lead. Their offense was led by three RBIs each from Illiana Conley and McKenzie Johnson. In the circle, Johnson kept the Eagles off the board, allowing only one hit and striking out five. The Cobras survived this one but will have to play one more game tomorrow with their season on the line.

“The girls got it done, and now it’s time to rest and prepare for tomorrow,” said Kirkwood head coach Kelli Storz. “Last time we played Rossview, who’s hot right now, we waited too late to start scoring, so we need to get going early, and defend the ball well.”

Clarksville shuts out Rossview to advance to district title game

In another edition of this huge rivalry, runs were hard to come by for both teams. Clarksville got on the board early with three runs in the first, courtesy of an Adelyn Butler 2 RBI double and an RBI single from Katelyn Fox. But after that, Rossview pitcher Olivia Quick allowed no more runs in her complete game outing.

The problem for Rossview? Maddi White was in the circle for the Wildcats. White allowed only four hits and no runs while striking out seven in a complete game shutout, advancing Clarksville to the district 13-4A title game on Wednesday. Rossview will now have to face Kirkwood in an elimination game on Tuesday.

“We came out from the start with energy, our dugout was lively the whole game,” said Wildcats head coach Brian Rush. “That early momentum gave us a lead, and when you give Maddie a lead, she’s tough to score on. Now we know we’re going to regions, and that’s a good feeling, but now it shifts our focus to the next goal.”
