CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) A truck carrying over 575 wreaths from Maine for the annual Wreaths Across America arrived at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Cemetery Friday.

Wreaths Across America is the tradition of laying wreaths to honor veterans during the holiday season which began in 1992. The mission of Remember, Honor, Teach, is carried out with simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery as well as over 1,200 locations in all 50 states and around the world.

Resthaven is the site of over 1,700 veteran graves and volunteers will place wreaths on veterans graves Saturday, December 16 following a ceremony which is open to the public at the Resthaven Cemetery Chapel, 2930 Highway 41-A South, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Volunteers who place a wreath on a veteran’s grave are asked to say the veteran’s name out loud and thank them for their service to the nation.

The truck was escorted from I-24 by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, Montgomery County Emergency Medical Service, and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. The wreaths were welcomed to the cemetery by members of the Captain William Edmiston Chapter NSDAR, Sevier Station Society N.S.C.A.R. and the Valentine Sevier Chapter TNSSAR.
