William “Bill” Welker, age 84 of Clarksville, passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 29, 2021.

He was born in Clarksville on January 18, 1937, the son of the late John Welker and Gertrude Shelton Welker. Bill was a graduate of Clarksville High School, and he was a fixture for five decades in the local automotive community.

Known for his talents as an engine builder with a passion for racing, he spent many years in drag racing, where he won numerous titles and gained the respect of all he competed against. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Armstrong Welker, and children, Michael Welker (Jaime), Keri Welker and Lisa Godfrey (Tom). He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Sheppard and Nora Thomas (Tommy), and five grandchildren, Haley Welker, Alison Welker, Lillian Welker, Emily Godfrey and Jane Godfrey.

There will be a memorial visitation on Wednesday, August 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Gateway Funeral Home.
