CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – We’re over halfway through the high school football regular season and in the midst of region play. With the early playoff picture beginning to take shape, Friday’s games could go a long way toward determining which teams make the postseason.

At 29-9 on my picks this season, let’s check out the upcoming slate of games.

Game of the Week: #6 Northwest Vikings (2-3) @ #5 Kenwood Knights (2-3)

It’s only Week 6, but this game has playoff implications written all over it. Likely only one of the Vikings or the Knights will have a chance at a playoff berth out of region 7-5A, and the loser will face a much longer road.

Northwest is going through some growing pains right now, while Kenwood has been one of the area’s most underrated teams despite losing to some tough opponents. Here’s the predicted outcome.

#1 Kirkwood Cobras (4-1) @ Dickson County Cougars (3-2)

Kirkwood suffered its first loss of the season last week against undefeated East Robertson and will look to bounce back in its third region matchup.

The Cobras have historically responded well to losses, having not dropped back-to-back games since October 2023. Kirkwood is 1-2 all-time against the Cougars, but I expect that record to even up at 2-2 on Friday.

Clarksville Now’s Pick: Kirkwood 21 – Dickson County 7.

#9 West Creek Coyotes (0-5) @ #3 Clarksville High Wildcats (3-2)

Clarksville High has won three straight games and will have another prime opportunity to extend its winning streak against West Creek.

The Coyotes played their best game of the season Friday night against Rossview but still fell 27-6. The Wildcats should find plenty of success running the ball enroute to their fourth straight victory.

Mt. Juliet Golden Bears (2-3) @ #4 Northeast Eagles (2-3)

I just can’t figure out Northeast, as the Eagles have accounted for three of my missed picks this fall. Last week, they handed Lawson its first loss of the season and will look to carry that momentum into Friday’s matchup against Mt. Juliet.

The Golden Bears are a physical team and could give the Eagles some trouble, making this the game I’m least confident in.

Clarksville Now’s Pick: Mt. Juliet 30, Northeast 21.

#7 Rossview Hawks (1-4) @ McGavock Raiders (1-4)

The Hawks got into the win column Friday and will look to build momentum against McGavock.

They’ll have a great opportunity to do so, as the Raiders have struggled this season and have been outscored 125-0 through their first two region games. I expect Rossview to find plenty of success on Friday.

Caldwell County Tigers (5-0) @ #8 Fort Campbell Falcons (2-3)

Fort Campbell got region play off to a strong start with a 44-12 victory over Todd County Central, but the Falcons will face a much tougher matchup this weekend against Caldwell County.

The Tigers feature an explosive offense and are averaging 45 points per game this season. I expect Fort Campbell to struggle to find stops against a talented Caldwell County offense.
