CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – This high school football season has flown by as we’ve already made it to Week 8 of the regular season. Although there are still three weeks to go, an area matchup will likely determine a playoff spot. Can the Knights make the playoffs for a second straight year, or will Northeast return for the first time in Deonte Weston’s third season at the helm?

Find out my prediction for that matchup and more in Week 8’s Thursday night edition of Football in Clarksville.

Game of the Week: #6 Kenwood Knights (3-4) @ #5 Northeast Eagles (2-5)

This game could determine who’s in and who’s out in Clarksville. Likely only one of these teams will make the playoffs out of Region 7-5A, leaving the loser on the outside looking in. Northeast is coming off a competitive 30-26 loss on the road at Henry County, while Kenwood looked less competitive in a loss to Maplewood. The Eagles have been tricky to predict this season, but I think they win this one and sneak into the playoffs.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Northeast 27 – Kenwood 19

Kirkwood defeated West Creek 50-0 on August 21, 2026. (Patrick Smith)

#1 Kirkwood Cobras (6-1) @ Creek Wood Red Hawks (3-4)

Kirkwood scored the most points in program history Friday in a 60-6 victory over LaVergne. Creek Wood is a better team than the Wolverines, but this will still be a good opportunity for the Cobras to build toward their Week 10 matchup against Henry County. Kirkwood should win this one comfortably.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Kirkwood 42 – Creek Wood 9

#2 Clarksville Wildcats (5-2) @ Shelbyville Golden Eagles (1-5)

Clarksville got a massive momentum-building win Friday in a 31-12 domination of Siegel. Sophomore Harrison Smith has been great in the rushing attack, but this matchup should give him an opportunity to throw the ball a little more. The Wildcats should get out of Shelbyville untouched.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Clarksville 35 – Shelbyville 17

Montgomery Central knocked off Northwest 47-34 on Sep. 12, 2026. (Patrick Smith)

#3 Montgomery Central Indians (6-1) @ Marshall County Tigers (2-5)

Montgomery Central made a statement Friday in its return to action following a Week 6 “bye week.” A 41-6 beatdown of Battle Creek put to bed any questions about a potential midseason drop-off. The Indians will continue to roll against Marshall County this week.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Montgomery Central 31 – Marshall County 0

Overton Bobcats (1-6) @ #4 Rossview Hawks (3-4)

Rossview has made a run in the region, winning its last three matchups. The Hawks have a great opportunity to clinch a playoff berth against an Overton team that has really struggled this season. I think Stratie Young’s defense is very underrated, and they’ll get a second straight shutout.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Rossview 27 – Overton 0

Rossview defeated West Creek 27-6 on Sep. 18, 2026. (Obead Issayas)

Cane Ridge Ravens (3-4) @ #7 West Creek Coyotes (1-6)

This will be a really big matchup for West Creek. The Coyotes still have a chance to sneak into the playoffs over the next couple of weeks, but they have to be perfect. West Creek got its first win of the season against McGavock, but I expect the Ravens of Cane Ridge to be a much tougher opponent.

Clarksville Now’s Pick: Cane Ridge 24 – West Creek 13

#8 Northwest Vikings (2-5) @ Henry County Patriots (3-4)

Northwest has fallen off from its hot start to the season. The Vikings have dropped their last five games after opening the season 2-0. Things don’t get any easier with a trip to play a Henry County team that will be disappointed with its performance against Northeast last week. The Patriots win big before coming to Montgomery County for the final two weeks of the season.

Clarksville Now’s Pick: Henry County 45 – Northwest 6

Fort Campbell’s comeback falls short in the 50th Army Bowl on Sep. 5, 2026. (Ky’Ron Washington)

Franklin County Rebels (1-5) @ #9 Fort Campbell Falcons (2-5)

Fort Campbell had an underwhelming offensive performance Friday, dropping its matchup with Trigg County 48-10. Franklin County has struggled this season, but I’m worried about the Falcons right now. They’re back on post, but I could see another disappointing result.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Franklin County 31 – Fort Campbell 17

#10 Clarksville Academy Cougars (0-7) @ Donelson Christian Wildcats (3-4)

Clarksville Academy scored its first touchdown of the season Friday! Other than that, I don’t have much to say. The Cougars are doing their best given a tough situation. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll score another touchdown this week.

ClarksvilleNow’s Pick: Donelson Christian Academy 50 – Clarksville Academy 6
