Question: What should I do this fall to keep my house and yard beautiful?
Answer: Welcome to October – one of fall’s most enjoyable months! The weather has cooled down considerably and it’s a great time to be outside! Now is the perfect time to take steps to beautify your outdoor space!
- Plant trees, bushes and flowers: October is a great time to plant trees in your yard and around your home. Fall is a good time to plant because the weather has cooled down but the ground is still warm from summer and ideal for root growth. Adding mulch to plant beds is recommended to keep plant beds warmer and protect roots from the coming colder temperatures. Now is the time for planting perennials that bloom annually. Clean out planters and flower beds.

- Aerate and fertilize your lawn: Aeration and fertilization are primarily done during this season to deliver air, water and much needed nutrients to the roots to promote a healthy yard after a hot, dry summer.
- Pest prevention: Fall is also a good time to spray for pests to protect against bug infestations. Also inspect your home for potential nesting sites and for holes or gaps that might offer access to small animals who will be looking for a warm place to huddle up and ride out the winter.
- Keep an eye on your gutters: The leaves will be falling and collecting in your gutters. Avoid clogged gutters to ensure that rainwater is properly routed away from your home.
- Check the attic: Take a look in your attic to inspect for any penetration through the roof or siding to make sure everything is sealed.
Don’t forget, it’s not too late to catch a deal on HVAC tune-ups before the cold weather sets in!
Enjoy the cooler weather!
