CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The West Creek High girls’ soccer team hosted the Beech Buccaneers for their home opener to kick off the 2024-25 season on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Beech High started the contest out hot and got an early lead, which they held for the whole game, winning by a score of 5-0.
The Buccaneers hot start began within the first five minutes of the game when they scored their first goal, and quickly scored again soon after, pushing the score to 2-0. While it wasn’t the start West Creek had hoped for, Coyotes head coach Craig Nakutis was pleased with his team’s effort right out the gate.
“This is a new team, and we’re replacing a lot of production,” Nakutis told Clarksville Now. “The girls gave it an A-Effort for what it was, and I’m proud of the girls. This happens in soccer sometimes.”
West Creek’s defense stiffened after surrendering two goals, holding Beech scoreless for the rest of the first half. However, the Bucs added three more goals in the second half and kept the Coyotes silent, resulting in a 5-0 win. Nakutis and his squad will retool and head back to the drawing board.
“We have to fix a few things,” Nakutis said. “You have to give credit to Beech, that’s a good team. We’re going to figure it out. Trust me on one thing, we’ll be in it for districts.”
