CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The West Creek Coyotes traveled across the river to Montgomery Central High School for a rematch of last year’s flag football city championship, with the number one seed and an undefeated season on the line for both teams.
The two squads battled back and forth throughout the contest and actually needed additional time for a winner to be decided. However, West Creek’s defense stepped up to get a stop before their offense scored quickly on the other end to claim a 14-13 victory, the district’s number one overall seed and an undefeated regular season.
When the game kicked off, the Coyotes struck first after taking a 6-0 lead after their first drive of the game. Montgomery Central quickly responded with a touchdown of their own and also converted the extra point to take a one-point lead going into half.

After the halftime break and an interception from the Indians, Montgomery Central quarterback Audrey Levendusky ran in a touchdown to extend their lead, but the team missed the extra point.
West Creek’s Irelynn Laurin responded with a touchdown run of her own. The Coyotes then tied the game up with an extra point, and the two sides headed to overtime after trading interceptions.
West Creek victorious in OT
In overtime, it’s one play — sudden death. If you score, it’s ruled as only one point.
The Indians had the ball first and were unable to find the endzone. Meanwhile, the Coyotes quickly called game on the next play, securing their first undefeated regular season in school history and claiming the regular season district crown. The Coyotes will have home-field advantage throughout the district playoffs on a quest to the state tournament.
“It’s two great teams going at it, Montgomery Central and us have become a rivalry, and they’re a great program,” said Coyotes head coach Aaron King. “We prepped for this game, practiced hard, and earned it. However, at the end of the day, it’s cool we went undefeated, but playoffs start now, and the job is not done. We’ve got a long way to go.”
“It was a good game with two good teams,” Indians head coach Billy Youngquist told Clarksville Now. “Every time we play is an opportunity for us to get better, and if we can get better from this, that’s a positive. It’s a tournament sport, and we’re worried about where we will be at the end.”
