WEATHER ALERT: Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Montgomery, surrounding counties

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Montgomery and surrounding counties until 5 p.m.

There is increasing confidence for thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, becoming numerous to widespread at times, according to the National Weather Service. Storms should reach our area starting around noon, with possible damaging wind gusts and large hail. The tornado threat is low.

Expect heavy downpours in the strongest storms, but the flooding threat is low. Additional showers are storms are possible overnight, as well as into Saturday.

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 4pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 4pm and 5pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5pm. High near 82. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 10pm. Low around 60. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 1pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. High near 69. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Sunday: A chance of showers before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 4pm, then a chance of showers after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 65. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. West northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
