Update, 5:40 p.m.: Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday. Pre-K will not report. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

“The majority of road and campus conditions have improved throughout the day, but there are still patchy areas that may refreeze overnight,” said CMCSS spokesman Anthony Johnson.

“This additional time will provide more visibility for drivers and pedestrians. We ask everyone to please exercise caution during your commute tomorrow,” Johnson said.

Update, 1 p.m.: Highway 48 appears to be back open, with traffic clear.

Update, 11:40 a.m.: An accident took out a utility pole on Highway 48 at Batson Road.

The highway will be closed until about 12:30 p.m. while CEMC crews replace the pole, according to an MCSO alert.

In Clarksville, road conditions are improving, Gerron said. Crews are at work clearing ice from subdivisions off of Madison Street.

Update, 10:35 a.m.: As of 7:30 a.m., Street Department crews had cleared all north Clarksville roads of black ice, according to city spokeswoman Linda Gerron.

The department also noted that the right lanes of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard southbound had persistent patchy black ice.

All city government offices will be working remotely due to the hazardous travel conditions.

The Revenue Collections Division on the first floor of City Hall will be operating at reduced staffing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call before you visit for their latest operating status. Tax services at the Trustee’s Office and the North Clarksville City Services Center will not be available today.

Update, 8:50 a.m.: Most major roads are clear and passable, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

“However, most side roads are still covered in ice. Most parking lots are a sheet of ice. Salt trucks are out, but with temperatures staying below freezing, ice may still be present on roads,” MCSO said.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Roads across Montgomery County were covered in ice Thursday morning after a night of sleet and snow, prompting schools to close.

At 4:15 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reported that roads in rural area especially are covered in ice and black ice. “Expect roadways to be treacherous on elevated surfaces, bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads through the morning hours,” the MCSO alert said.

County Highway Department crews were out salting the roads this morning.

The Clarksville Street Department started clearing all main roads Wednesday night and began clearing subdivision roads this morning, according to city spokeswoman Linda Gerron.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools announced at 5 a.m. they will be closed.

“Icy conditions are present on roads and campuses throughout the county, and temperatures are expected to stay below freezing today,” said an alert from CMCSS spokesman Anthony Johnson.

“While many main roads might appear clear, there is patchy black ice, and side roads, parking lots, elevated surfaces, and other areas can present hazardous travel conditions,” he said.

High temperatures today will reach only the upper 20s, with lows tonight around 17 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Weather closures

Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools and its offices are closed. After-school activities and athletics are canceled.

Austin Peay State University is closed, and all on-ground classes and events are canceled. Students should check D2L course sites for details on make-up assignments or tests, or contact the instructor.

Daymar-Hussian Clarksville Campus will open at 10 a.m.

Clarksville Christian School will be closed.

Fort Campbell Schools are closed.

Fort Campbell is on a delayed opening schedule. Civilian and military personnel should report no later than two hours after their regularly scheduled time to arrive.

City of Clarksville offices will delay operations until 10 a.m.

Montgomery County Government offices are planning a 10 a.m. opening.

Montgomery County Animal Care & Control will be on a two-hour delay. They will open to the public from noon to 5 p.m.
