CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Freeze Warning has been issued for Montgomery and surrounding counties until 11 a.m. today and from 8 p.m. tonight to 10 a.m. Wednesday.
While it’s 35 degrees in Clarksville at 7:30 a.m., with a high today of 45, the temperature is expected to drop to about 21 tonight.
“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” the NWS warning said.
“With such warm temperatures so early into spring, plants have begun to bloom. Temperatures will continue to drop below freezing as these early morning hours progress with temperatures finally rising above freezing for entire mid-state by 11 am. this morning. Temperatures will once again drop below freezing during early evening hours this evening and remain that way for up to 14 hours through Wednesday morning.”
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold, the NWS said.
“To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.”
