CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – City Councilperson Wallace Redd has announced his resignation from the Ward 4 seat on the council, effective Oct. 31. Redd cited personal reasons, adding he will be moving outside of the Ward 4 boundaries, according to a city news release.

“It has been my honor to have served four terms as a councilman and one term as Montgomery County commissioner,” Redd said in a letter to Mayor Joe Pitts. “I have done my best to uphold my oath of office and represent the constituents of Ward 4,” he said. “Helga and I will keep Clarksville and the City Council in our prayers.”

“Councilman Redd has always put his constituents and our citizens first while he’s served on the City Council,” Pitts said in the news release. “He is our de facto parliamentarian, always helping me to keep the council on track during our deliberations. His invaluable perspective, and humor, will be missed, and we pray for him and his family in the future.”

Redd did not pick up papers to run for re-election in November, leaving former Councilperson Tim Chandler as the only candidate on the ballot for the Ward 4 seat.

With the November city elections just weeks away, the Ward 4 seat will be vacant from Oct. 31 until Redd’s immediate successor – Chandler – is sworn in, near Jan. 1.
