CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Some of Clarksville’s most notable historical figures returned to life at Fort Defiance to tell their stories on Saturday, August 10.

The Friends of Fort Defiance hosted a special “Day With The Dead,” with volunteers performing impersonations of local historical figures. Among those represented were Herbert Kimble, a county judge and secretary of the Texas 1836 Constitutional Convention; Dr. May Walker, a Union Army doctor and the only woman to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor; Joseph Bayliss, a Montgomery County native and defender of the Alamo, and Olympic Gold Medalist Wilma Rudolph.

Locals and visitors alike were encouraged to ask questions and learn about Clarksville’s past.
