Contributed commentary by Doug Englen, Montgomery County GOP chairman:
In the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Trump, the Republican Party of Montgomery County is deeply saddened by this act of violence, fueled by anger and evil. Our hearts go out to the innocent spectators who lost their lives or were injured. We offer our prayers and condolences to their families and loved ones.
This type of behavior has become systemic in the ongoing polarization of our nation. The Republican Party has been attacked by the far left, and for years, our members have remained the silent majority. Today, our party expresses our deepest concern for further violence and firmly states that we absolutely do not support such behavior.
I ask the people of Montgomery County to pray for peace and seek God’s guidance for strength. This is an act of evil, but together, we can stop it.
Let us unite in our resolve to overcome hatred and violence with respect and compassion.
