CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)- A Fort Campbell soldier scheduled to begin his trial on Monday, has had his trial date postponed 9-months due to a motion by his attorney.
Christopher Paul Conway was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated rape of a child for the November 14, 2017 death of one of his 9-month old twin daughters -Adeline Conway.
Conway had a bench trial scheduled for Monday, November 18, but his attorney Edward Dewerff filed a motion to continue.
The motion was reviewed last week in Judge Jill Ayer’s chambers and the exact reason for the continuance is unknown.
Kimberly Lund, assistant district attorney appeared in Judge Ayers’ court and stated for the record the state opposed the defense’s motion to continue the case until next year and the state was prepared to move forward.
Judge Ayers said after reviewing the motion and affidavit she
felt there was a need to grant the continuance.
The bench trial was rescheduled to September 21, 2020, with two dates set it February and August 2020 to discuss the case’s status.
Conway did not appear in court.
On Nov. 14, 2017, Clarksville Police responded to Cindy Jo Ct. around 7:19 a.m. in response to a medical call of CPR in progress. Conway’s infant daughter was transported to Tennova and was pronounced dead at around 8 a.m.
The special operations unit homicide detectives took over the investigation and determined the nine-month-old female infant had been sexually assaulted and that a cord was wrapped around her neck, causing her death.
