CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – As the anticipation for heavier traffic grows in the area of F&M Bank Arena, the City of Clarksville is taking steps to make College Street intersections safer for pedestrians and motorists, according to a news release from city spokesperson Jimmy Settle.
The Street Department is scheduled to activate a protected left turn signal for motorists on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 9 a.m. The signal has been added to College and Second streets for east-bound traffic, and work is expected to be completed by Thursday, July 27.
The left turn signal was funded through the $60,000 internal Traffic and Street Light Materials budget. Equipment and materials were already in stock, Settle said.
Pedestrian signals have already been added to both College and Second, and College and Third streets.
“Our professionals at the Street Department now have a solid plan in place and are executing it to perfection,” Pitts said. “The additional safety measures will help make access to and from the arena safer, but we still need the walking and driving public to be very aware of these key intersections, so everyone visiting our beautiful downtown area has a positive experience.”
