NEW ORLEANS (WKRN) — Emotions running high, interim head coach Mike Mularkey said “Wow, they needed that,” after the Tennessee Titans beat the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.
Marcus Mariota hit Anthony Fasano with a five-yard TD pass and the Tennessee Titans beat the Saints 34-28 in overtime in New Orleans Sunday.
It gave Mike Mularkey a victory in his first game as the Titans interim head coach and the Titans their second of the season.
The win also moves the Titans within one victory of first place in the AFC South.
The Titans trailed 28-20 in the fourth quarter when Mariota hit Justin Hunter for a seven-yard touchdown to make it a two point game.
Mariota then hit Delanie Walker on the two-point conversion to tie it up at 28-28.
Both teams missed potential game winning field goals in the last two minutes.
The Titans won the toss marching 80 yards 9 plays for the win.
Mularkey promised to revamp the offensive line after taking over for the fired Ken Whisenhunt and the Titans did not allow a single sack after allowing seven the week before.
Mariota finished the game with 371 yards and four touchdown passes.
Drew Brees finished with 389 yards and three TD’s for the Saints, but he was sacked four times and picked off once.
The Titans end a six-game losing streak and are 2-6 on the season.
Still shaking, Mularkey said in the press conference after the game that it “has been an emotional week, quite a week for everybody. to have an outcome like that…”
They host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday.
