CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay State University is Tennessee’s leading provider of higher education to military-affiliated students. With more than 2,650 currently enrolled, they form a key part of the University’s culture. To help preserve that culture, Austin Peay has recruited former top-ranking military leaders for administrative positions.
“We take this responsibility to the military seriously,” said Alisa White, APSU president. “If you’re counting stars, between General (Robin) Mealer and General (Gary) Luck, we have five on the board. Additionally, with General (Ronald) Bailey and General (Scott) Brower on our leadership team, we have four stars. So we have nine stars.”
Meet the Generals:
Retired General Gary Luck
Gary Luck acted as Commander-in-Chief for United Nations Command (Korea), Combined Forces Command, and United States Forces Korea. He now leads Austin Peay as a trustee.
“The instincts, insights and intuition honed via that extensive experience has more than prepared me to take on this responsibility. Further, the atmospherics of being part of such a viable institution as APSU is just plain exciting.”
Retired Brigadier General Robin Mealer (’00)
Robin Mealer served as Chief of the Force Management and Integration Division. Mealer is a proud Austin Peay graduate who now serves on the Board of Trustees.
“Austin Peay State University has contributed much to me both personally, in achieving my degree, and professionally, in the advancement and support of the Army ROTC program. This is my opportunity to reciprocate.”
Retired Brigadier General Scott Brower
Scott Brower is the current Military Adviser in Residence at Austin Peay. While in the military, he served as Deputy Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division.
“With my connection to Fort Campbell, understanding of the importance of higher education for our soldiers and family members, and the unique challenges that sometimes face military-affiliated students, I truly believe that I can help make a difference for these students and our University, as well as our local communities.”
Retired Lieutenant General Ronald Bailey (’77)
Bailey, a proud Marine, served as the Deputy Commandant for Plans, Policies and Operations. Today, he is the Vice-President of External Affairs for Austin Peay.
“Over the years, I’ve traveled upon three ships of service: leadership, relationship and mentorship. I will continue this at APSU.”
