Tennessee ranks seventh out of ten on the list of “Top States for Doing Business,” according to Area Development Online.

The fourth annual survey of site consultants determines the list every year from each state’s number of mentions in 17 categories: Business Environment, Labor Climate and Infrastructure and Global Access.

The top ten states in ranking order are: Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi, and California.

In the third category of Infrastructure and Global Access, Tennessee claims the top spot, and is placed at number six in overall mentions by those completing the survey.

Robert Hess, Executive Managing Director, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Global Corporate Services, one of the consultants completing the survey talked about the success of Southwestern states, saying, “Risk management and certainty around investment decision-making is rising as a critical location factor, and Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas, Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi continue to maintain their business climate ‘edge’ through focused advancement of their ‘business-friendly’ policies as well as overall low structural costs.”
