CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – An 18-year-old has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his part in the 2023 shooting of a woman who then crashed her car.

On June 4, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m., police responded to an apartment complex at 1249 Parkway Place and found that a woman had crashed a sedan into a trash bin, according to previous reports.

The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Wylil Alexander of Clarksville, had a gunshot wound and was flown to Nashville by LifeFlight helicopter. Two days later, on June 6, Alexander succumbed to her injuries.

During the course of the investigation, two teens were identified as the suspects responsible for the shooting. An unnamed 14-year-old was arrested the day after the crime, but 16-year-old  O’Jarrion Griffin remained at large.

According to previous reports, Alexander had met with Griffin and another teen the day of the incident. After a brief discussion, Alexander tried to flee and was shot, police said.

On June 11, 2023, police were able to take Griffin into custody and charged him with first-degree murder in perpetration of a crime.

On Aug. 7, 2025, Griffin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison, to be served at 100 percent, according to District Attorney General Robert Nash. The plea hearing took place with the victim’s family present in Judge Robert Bateman’s courtroom.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family as they continue to heal, and we thank everyone involved for their hard work in bringing this case to justice,” Nash stated.
