CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Association for Down Syndrome (CADS) was excited to host the recent Technology for Teachers reception.

Thirty-six teachers from three counties were the recipients of the Technology grant offered through CADS. The event was hosted at the Montgomery County School System.

CADS has awarded 82 iPads to special education teachers this year. The program included comments from Dr. Worthington (Director of schools), Dr. Bellamy (Director of Special Education), Tricia Hanna (CADS, Executive Director), Tommy Vallejos (Community Leader), Sandi Mayo (CADS Board Member), Brian Welker (UPS MidSouth Division Manager), Patrick Galben (General Manager of the Clarksville HH Gregg), Lily Wellington (CADS, President) and Kim Duggins (Three Ladies on the Radio).

The Technology for Teachers program would not be possible without corporate and community support. UPS approved a $25,000 grant earlier this year to support this program and Advanced Therapy Solutions also sponsored an iPad.

Technology for Teachers is a grant-based initiative to provide teachers with tablet touch screen technologies to support the academic and social success of all special needs children. The technology must be used for developmental and educational activities which enhance the applicant’s ability to deliver instruction to students with special needs.

Applicants for the grant must indicate how the tool will be used in the classroom including specific applications to achieve classroom goals. The technology for teachers grant is open to all special education teachers in Montgomery County and the eight other counties CADS serves.
