Retired SSG Clifford Eugene VanWey, 75, of Clarksville, TN, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He was born on August 21, 1937 in Marietta, OH to the late Robert VanWey and Lavina Boothby VanWey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth VanWey and brother, Bill VanWey.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. James Trotter officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West in Hopkinsville, KY. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. and Monday, August 19, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Clifford was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam Conflict. He was a First Mate with Ingram Barge Company. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4895 and American Legion. He was an avid bowler and known by many people as the “Boat Man”.
He is survived by his son, Fred (Debby) VanWey of Clarksville, TN; two sisters, Kathleen (Jim) Higgins and Helen Seyfried of Marietta, OH; sister-in-law, Diane VanWey; two grandchildren, Jordan VanWey and Mary Ann (Bobby) Woods; and three great grandchildren, Joshua Mickle, Kimberly Woods, and Andrew Woods.
Military will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post 4895.
