CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Which comes first, the chicken or the cone? In the case of Chick’nCone, the homemade waffle cone comes first, and you can see it being made at a waffle station as soon as you walk through the door. The cones are then hand-rolled and filled with sauce-covered chicken, and if you want it, macaroni and cheese.
It’s a unique combination and a different take on your classic chicken and waffles, and it’s becoming more popular as the company plants more flags. Husband and wife franchisees Lewis and Rosemary Murphy have assisted with that effort, bringing the chicken-filled cones to Clarksville with Tennessee’s first Chick’nCone.
Something different
Lewis Murphy told Clarksville Now he and his wife discovered the franchise on the Food Network. Upon hearing the concept, they were immediately intrigued.
“We did a little investigation and found out it was a small franchise but growing, so we got in touch with them, and they were excited to have us come to Tennessee.”
The franchise has been around for a few years and currently has locations all over the United States and some overseas. This is the first one in Tennessee.

“They have about 25 locations, mainly in the Southeast,” Murphy said. “A couple guys in New York City started it, and they have a couple locations there. They actually have some in Dubai, and then they have locations in Florida, Texas, California, Missouri and Ohio.”
Clarksville’s Chick’nCone has been open for almost two weeks, and Murphy said he is excited to offer the community something that different and that sets them apart from other establishments.
“We decided to come to Clarksville because we felt there was a need for a different type of restaurant than what’s been offered around the Sango area. So, it was just a unique opportunity.”
‘So Cluckin’ Good’
Chick’nCone offers a few different menu items, ranging from chicken served in a waffle cone to chicken tenders and chicken bowls. The company’s slogan calls them “so cluckin’ good.”
“We offer crispy chicken tossed in sauce and served in a homemade waffle cone,” Murphy said. “We also offer a bowl, which is a mixture of chicken, some fries and macaroni and cheese. You can get macaroni and cheese on anything you want. We also have a chicken sandwich and sides of Cajun fries, Cajun corn, and macaroni and cheese.
The franchise offers six sauces: Cinna-Maple, Yell Barbeque, Barbeque, Kick’n’Ranch, Buffalo Blue and Peri Peri, which is their hottest option. They serve Pepsi products but also have slushies on tap. Murphy said that for those looking for a harder option, domestic and local craft beer are also available.
“We have an IPA, which is ‘Hippies & Cowboys’ from Tennessee Brew Works. We also offer in cans and bottles some domestic beers, but we are primarily focusing on regional beers, like Black Abbey and Blackhorse, that are local, so we’re trying to keep it in the regional area.”

In addition to the beer, slushies, and sweet and savory combination of chicken and waffles, this chicken joint doesn’t skimp when it comes to dessert. They offer three “Waffle Crunch Shakes,” in vanilla, caramel and chocolate flavors, each topped with homemade waffle pieces.
Chick’nCone is open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon-6 p.m. at 1011 Winn Way. To learn more about the franchise, visit the website or check out the Clarksville location’s Facebook page.
