CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – If predictions hold true, Montgomery County will see 2 to 4 inches of snow on Saturday, with more snow coming behind it during the winter storm this weekend. But whose roads will be plowed first?

The Clarksville Street Department has been preparing snowplows and salt trucks, and crews are prepared to be deployed throughout the city. The first priority for the Street Department will be to clear the main streets and arterial roads and then move into secondary and neighborhood streets, according to a press release. They are responsible for snow removal of over 1,400 lane miles throughout the city, and they follow a prioritized map for which streets they hit first. Outside the city limits, the Montgomery County Highway Department also has a prioritized map, and that map has recently been updated, they announced. To view the updated Montgomery County snow removal map, click here.

All residents are asked to stay home and avoid any travel that isn’t absolutely necessary, for their own safety and so that emergency first responders and street crews are able to freely and safely pass.

“We strongly urge residents to restrict travel to emergencies only,” Montgomery County officials said. “Ice and snow will create extremely dangerous conditions. Our crews will be working around the clock, but even treated roads will be hazardous.”

If it’s not an emergency, stay home

Clarksville Fire Rescue also warned residents to stay off the roads. “Stay home unless it is an absolute emergency, both for your own safety as well as the safety of first responders. Avoiding travel prevents CFR from getting tied up at fender benders and slide-offs, keeping crews available for life-threatening calls.

“Also, staying off the roads ensures that emergency vehicles have the space they need to navigate as safely and quickly as possible,” CFR said.
