Update, 7:15 p.m.: Detectives have charged 19-year-old Labron Gibson with four counts of aggravated assault. Investigators determined he was the primary aggressor in the incident, during which he displayed a firearm. The second individual involved acted in defense of his family, Beaubien said.
Gibson sustained multiple gunshot wounds, which were non-life-threatening. He remains hospitalized and will be transferred to the Montgomery County Jail upon his discharge.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Hauser at 931-648-0656 ext. 5630.
Update, 2:10 p.m.: The shooting was an isolated incident; it apparently started with an argument in the store that escalated, leading to individuals firing shots, Beaubien said. Officers from CPD and deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded. They worked diligently to clear the building and search the parking lot for the individuals involved.
“CPD emphasizes that this was not an active shooter incident. Detectives from District 1 Criminal Investigations have responded to the scene, and all parties involved are in contact with the police,” Beaubien said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
The individual at Tennova had multiple non-lifethreatening gunshot wounds and is being transported to Nashville. There are no other reported injuries.
The Walmart is closed until further notice. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 911.
Update, 1:30 p.m.: One person was injured in the shooting, according to police spokesman Officer Scott Beaubien. That person drove to Tennova Healthcare, and the injury does not appear to be life-threatening.
Police responded to Walmart, 1680 Fort Campbell Blvd., after receiving several 911 calls. Officers quickly entered the business and systematically cleared it, making sure the shooter was not still inside. “This is not an active shooter situation,” Beaubien said.
