CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Girls Softball Association (CGSA) presented scholarships to graduating high school seniors Thursday, May 22 in Clarksville.

Of the scholarships, one in particular was created this year in memory of Deputy David “Bubba” Johnson, who was killed in a crash in January. Johnson was very involved with CGSA, and after he passed his family asked that donations be made to CGSA in lieu of flowers.

Donations from the funeral were used to create the $350 scholarship, which will be presented each year to a senior who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills.

Mary Ann Dennis was chosen to receive this special scholarship. She was out this season due to an injury, but she still participated in the league to earn her scholarship. Dennis volunteered with player assessments and coaching throughout the season.

Jennifer and Shelby Johnson, wife and daughter of the late Deputy Johnson, presented the scholarship award to Dennis.
