CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)  The Clarksville Rotary Club welcomed Senator Bill Powers to their weekly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and listened as he described his first few months serving Senator for District 22, which covers Montgomery, Houston and Stewart Counties.

Powers spoke about winning in a special election and the tasks he’s tended to during his term. Powers was elected in April 2019, to finish Mark Green’s term and will come up for re-election in the general election in November 2020.

Since taking on his new role, Powers said he has traveled with several state leaders to Fort Campbell to provide education about the area. Fort Campbell, who is the #2 employee in Tennessee, employees over 26,000 individuals, Power said.

“The product they make at Fort Campbell is world peace,” Powers said. “What we do here at Fort Campbell is a lot more important than other industries.”

With firsthand knowledge and understanding, Powers said lawmakers can handle future decisions with insight.

Powers also spoke about his support of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and the Education Foundation. Having served as managing partner for Wyatt Johnson Automotive Group for the past 30  years, he spoke about the annual car giveaway which gives one lucky Advanced Placements student the chance to get a lucky key and win a car.

Powers also explained his vote on the professional private tax and the Educational Savings Acts.
