CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – State Sen. Bill Powers announced on Monday that he plans to run for re-election for the Tennessee State Senate in 2024.

Powers has served as a state senator since 2019, which is when he was appointed following a special election. He proceeded to run for a full term in 2020, when he received over 60% of the vote.

Powers highlighted a number of areas where he believes he made a significant role in improving, which includes helping the state budget, cutting taxes, improving education, protecting senior citizens from abuse and serving as a watchdog for military families, according to an announcement sent to Clarksville Now.

“I am so honored to represent Montgomery County and humbled by the trust folks placed in me a few years ago,” Powers said. “I never take my responsibilities lightly, and I will always look out for the best interests of Montgomery County. You have my word.”

Currently, Powers serves as the vice-chairperson of the Senate Education Committee, a member of the Finance, Ways, and Means Committee and a member of the Transportation and Safety Committee.

Before serving as a state senator, Powers was elected two terms on the Clarksville City Council, chairman of Clarksville Gas and Water and served as a board member for the Clarksville Department of Electricity.

Powers is also involved in philanthropic efforts such as the United Way of Greater Clarksville, Manna Café and the Economic Development Council of Clarksville.
