CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Members of Bears and Webelos Cub Scout Pack 502 remembered and honored veterans Saturday as the nine and ten-year-old scouts placed American flags on the graves of around two dozen fallen veterans at Baggett’s Chapel Cemetery on Highway 13 in Montgomery County.
Each time a scout placed a flag near a gave, they would then give a scouting salute and thank that veteran for their service.
“Today we are putting flags on graves of our veterans who have given everything for our nation. We bring the young people out on Memorial Day to be sure they really understand the sacrifice of war,” said Kathrine Bailey, Cub Master for Pack 502.
Bailey added that scouting is very focused on teaching civic duty to children and this is part of their civic duty. A number of scouting groups carried out the same recognition at other cemeteries in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
