CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville’s oldest professional theater is closing out its 36th season with a musical. DAMN YANKEES opens at the Roxy Regional Theater on Friday, August 2, at 8 p.m.
In keeping with the theater’s tradition, opening night is pay-what-you-can. Any tickets not pre-sold at the regular price will go on sale at 7:30 for a minimum $5 donation.
America’s favorite pastime takes center stage in this Tony Award-winning musical based on the novel “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant” by Douglass Wallop.
DAMN YANKEES stars Donald Groves as middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd, who trades his soul to the Devil (played by Ryan Bowie) for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees.
As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy (Quinten Patrick Busey), he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life that he has left behind. Local attorney Stacy Turner will also reprise her role of Lola from the Roxy’s original production.
DAMN YANKEES was composed by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop. This production is directed and choreographed by Ryan Bowie.
