The Hawks began the game with their lineup making solid contact right out the gate. However, nothing came of their offensive success. They grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to end the first inning.
Dylan Kazee took the mound for Rossview during the following half inning. He began the game struggling with his overall command. Kazee hit the first two batters in the Patriots’ lineup. Henry County proceeded to bunt the runners into scoring position. The inning concluded with the Patriots scoring one run off a sacrifice fly. Their one-run lead did not last long.
During the second inning, the Hawks batted around to score five runs. The team produced five hits during the inning, which included a three-run double by Kazee. Rossview held onto the lead for the rest of the game. However, Henry County pushed the Hawks to their limit during the bottom of the fourth.
The Patriots scored twice in the fourth due to a pair of singles and walks. This prompted the Hawks’ starting pitcher to come out of the game. Rossview minimized the overall damage, in part thanks to Marshall Robinson and Preston Robinson. The two combined to work out of the inning. This included Preston Robinson ending the inning with the bases loaded after a ground out to second base.
Henry County was held scoreless the remainder of the game. Rossview won 10-4 after adding three runs in the top of the seventh.
Post game
“This regional championship means a lot to our program,” said Rossview head coach Parker Holman. “It was our third region championship in program history, and I am happy that our guys get one more guaranteed game of baseball at the Hawks Nest to try and make it to the dance. As a team, we are excited for the opportunity to play Houston, which is top five on any given poll in the state.”
This season marked the first time in program history that Rossview won the regular season championship, district championship and now the regional championship.
