CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rossview High senior forward Torri James has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week for impacting every phase of the game in two games played last week.

Going into the week of Feb. 5, the Lady Hawks were coming off a 49-37 loss against their rival, Clarksville High. The team knew they had to bounce back against their upcoming opponents, which turned out to be the Springfield High Yellow Jackets and Northwest High Vikings.

The Lady Hawks went on to defeat both the Yellow Jackets and Vikings by double digit point margins. James played a major role in each victory due to her ability to impact the offensive and defensive ends.

In her two games played, the senior forward averaged 20.5 points, 9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. James also disrupted passing lanes throughout each game, which led to her averaging 4 steals per game as well.

Rossview High head coach Clay Head said James has been a stable force for his team throughout her time with the program. “We know game-in and game-out what we’ll get from her offensively, defensively, rebounding the ball. … She’s been very consistent this year,” Head said.

“Her athleticism and physical traits are something very few people have. But also, she understands the game really well, and she sees the floor really well on offense and defense. She’s always looking for that next move and sees things before they happen.”

What’s next

Rossview High is battling their way through district tournament play, and most recently defeated Springfield High on Thursday night to punch their ticket to the district championship.

With the Lady Hawks’ win, they are now set to face Clarksville High for yet another rivalry showdown on Monday, Feb. 19. Rossview will look for their first win of the season against CHS following their two previous losses.

As for James, once she graduates from Rossview, she is set to attend Western Kentucky University in the fall as she looks to continue to her education and playing career.

Western Kentucky head coach Greg Collins said he is thrilled to have James joining his program, according to Western Kentucky Athletics.

“She has a great work ethic, she’s versatile, highly competitive and a straight A student,” Collins said. “Torri has played with and against some of the best players in the area. She will be a great teammate and a winner. Our fans are going to really enjoy seeing Torri play!”
