CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rossview High baseball hosted Dickson County on Monday for a region semi-final matchup. The score remained close early in the game, but the Hawks put together a six-run fourth inning to find separation. The game concluded with Rossview winning 11-4.

Defense was the key component to the start the game. Each starting pitcher showcased their ability to make batters miss through the first three innings of play. Reid Leonard took the mound for the Hawks to open up the contest.

Leonard was only responsible for allowing five baserunners on while in the game. However, Rossview’s defense allowed a total of four runs to score. This was due to defensive miscues while fielding the ball. Leonard finished with a stat line of 3.1 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, 1 earned run, 3 hits and 2 walks.

It wasn’t until the fourth inning that Rossview earned their first lead of the game. The Hawks were patient to begin the inning. Brady Cooper led off with a seven pitch walk. By the end of the fourth, the team compiled four hits, four walks, one hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly to score six runs.

Cannon Rice secured the victory for Rossview following their offensive explosion. He only allowed one hit after his team gained the advantage. Rice finished with 3.2 innings pitched, 7 strikeouts, 0 earned runs and 0 walks.

Postgame

“This victory was meaningful for everyone involved in the program,” said Rossview head coach Parker Holman. “For me personally, I was just happy to see a group of kids that love each other find a way to keep playing baseball together. May baseball is about loving and believing in the guy next to you and making sure you do your job to the best of your ability.”

The Hawks are scheduled to travel to Henry County for the regional championship on Wednesday. The game will decide who will host or travel for the sectional game.
