CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rossview High and the Dickson County Cougars played Thursday to determine the boys’ basketball regional champion for the 2022-23 season.

The Hawks were able to build an 8-point leading going into halftime, but their ability to control the tempo in the second half led to the game getting out of hand quickly.

Rossview went on to outscore the Cougars 46-20 in the second half. Once the final buzzer sounded, Rossview secured their first-ever regional championship by a score of 84-47.

Rossview senior guard Messiah Ward led his team in points with 29, which includes 15 in the first half of action.

The Hawks and Cougars will both be back in action for the chance to qualify for state during the next round of postseason play.

According to the TSSAA, with the regional championship win, the Hawks will face Memphis East High, who is coming off a 53-63 loss to Overton. That game is scheduled to take place at Rossview High on Monday, March 6, with tipoff at 7 p.m.

Coaches corner

“We’re a very talented team,” said Rossview Head Coach Johnny Jackson. “But these guys are a great bunch of kids that love each other. Our program is so tight, because we want to have fun. At the end of the day, it’s just a game and these guys are giving up personal accolades for the greater good, just to win. That’s one of the things we’ve been preaching to them, anything it takes to get a win right now and that’s what we have to do.

“We pushed the ball hard tonight, and we tried to stay steady on defense and offensively we were trying to get into the open court and run. Our depth has been great all season long and tonight was no different. Guys were ready to come in and contribute. I’m so proud of them and what they’ve accomplished.”
