CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High Hawks traveled to Kenwood High School for a matchup with the Knights on the gridiron, which marks each program’s second scrimmage of the 2025-26 preseason. While they didn’t keep score, the Knights and Hawks made some electric plays on each side of the ball.

Kenwood flashed a lot of potential against the Hawks on Friday, and they were led by senior quarterback Christian James, who impressed with his ability to make plays in the running game, while also getting his receivers involved in his team’s passing attack. Receivers Ja’Corey Dukes and Christian Simpson both caught touchdown receptions from James on the night.

On the defensive end for the Knights, linebacker Josiah Brown continued to dominate this preseason, and it seemed that he was in on every tackle against the Hawks. While a few small penalties and miscues held them back, Knights head coach Jarhett Snead said that he believes that those mistakes can be fixed rather quickly.

“All the little mistakes we had, none of them were lacking effort,” Snead told Clarksville Now. “Bad snaps, bad read, those are things we can fix in the film room. We just have to be focused and disciplined enough to fix them. We want to be a cohesive unit; it doesn’t work if all eleven don’t work together. One thing’s for sure; we got ourselves a quarterback.”

‘I loved the aggression, and I loved their willingness to compete’

Rossview showed a lot of physicality throughout the scrimmage both offensively and defensively. The trenches were where the Hawks made their money, and it was evident in each phase of the game. Offensively, junior quarterback Dawson Deer was in control of the offense and is starting to show a lot of promise as a first-year starter.

For Hawks head coach Stratie Young, he said that it’s good to see the work that his team has been putting in this offseason translate to the field.

“Our guys showed a lot of things we’ve been harping on for the last six weeks,” said Young. “This is one of the better times we’ve seen them be physical, fast, and focused. We just need to be a little better on the sideline and make sure our standard is set on how we do things. We’re looking for Dawson to take some steps forward, and he’s showing some command for this team. I loved the aggression, and I loved their willingness to compete.”
