CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Rocky Sickel has announced his candidacy for Montgomery County Commission, District 7.

Sickel, who will be running as an independent, has been a resident of Montgomery County for 20 years. He retired from the 101st Airborne Division as a first sergeant in 2009 after 21 years of active duty. He served with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and has multiple combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.

He currently serves as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Woodlawn and has a Bachelor of Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Sickel said he sees his potential role as a commissioner to be one of service, not politics. “I have zero political ambitions; it is my goal to serve my local community as we look to navigate a season of exceptionally fast growth.”

He said he looks to be extremely accessible.

“I am conservative at heart – socially, economically and politically. I do not subscribe to any political party, and I look forward to representing all citizens within District 7 equally,” Sickel said.

“As commissioner my top priority will be efficiency –to push for creative ways to reduce spending and taxes, while improving essential community services like schools, police, fire, EMS and waste management.”

District 7 covers Woodlawn, Dotsonville and the western portion of Montgomery County south of Fort Campbell and north of the Cumberland River.

Sickel’s wife Denise works as a bookkeeper for Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools at New Providence Middle School. His son Kyle works as a teacher and assistant football coach at Clarksville High and serves as a first lieutenant in the Army Reserves.
