CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A mix of snow and sleet began falling in Montgomery County Monday afternoon, causing icy road conditions in some areas.
Officer Natalie Hall with the Clarksville Police Department said a crash was reported around 4 p.m. on I-24 westbound near the state line. Traffic was backed up to at least Exit 86 in Kentucky.
Interstates and some roads in the northern part of Clarksville-Montgomery County have become slick as precipitation continues and temperatures drop.
Drivers are asked to avoid the interstate if at all possible.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for Montgomery County and will be in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Snow showers are expected to continue throughout the evening with more snow showers after midnight. Up to one inch of accumulation is possible. Wet roads and freezing temperatures will likely cause icy spots, making travel hazardous.
Snow is also likely Tuesday morning through afternoon with another inch of accumulation. Temperatures will hover around 29 degrees Tuesday.
